Participants will get a chance to learn and experience first aid skills through hands on scenarios and case studies that help build confidence and respect for adventuring outdoors. 

​Our instructors find a balance of engaging youth in planned curriculum and allowing for spontaneous fun and learning opportunities based on that particular group and what nature presents us with that day.

What to expect?

First aid is one of the most valuable skills a person can possess. Wouldn’t it be cool if your kids started learning these valuable lifesaving skills sooner rather than later? Well now they can, in our Outdoor First Aid class focused on teaching kids the ins and outs of First Aid. 

​This course offers youth the opportunity to experience first-hand what it takes to remain calm, think straight, and make good decisions when dealing with injuries in the woods when other medical attention might not be immediately available. This course will cover many basic of wilderness first aid skills that are practical for kids to learn and master.

You should plan to have clothing appropriate to the season in which you will be taking the class, as you will spend a significant amount of time outside. The following list is to SUPPLEMENT the clothing you will be wearing. If you have trouble locating some of these items please call us as we have a limited amount for loan.

Recommended items 

  • Backpack to put everything in (medium to large)
  • Rain gear (tops and bottoms)
  • Layers of clothing (weather dependent)
  • Warm hat or sun hat (weather dependent)
  • Water bottles (at least 1 qt/litre)
  • Snacks
  • Pen and notepad
  • Wrist Watch (cell phone is not sufficient)
  • Foot wear appropriate to the terrain (closed toes, no flip flops)
  • Insect repellent & Sunscreen
  • Leather gloves
  • Old Sleeping bag or blanket
  • Fixed-blade knife (NO folding knife) Note: If you don't own a fixed-blade knife, we recommend trying some of our knives to see what you prefer
  • Sleeping pad (foam or inflatable)
  • Personal first aid kit

For overnight courses

  • Sleeping bag or sleeping pad
  • Eating utensils (including bowl & cup)
  • Flashlight or headlamp
  • Non-perishable food (e.g. mountain house camping food)
  • Students staying in Basecamp lodging - bring linens/sleeping bag, pillow, towel, & cooking utensils (if planning to use the shared kitchen)

  • Camp hygiene and sanitation
  • Water filtering and purification
  • Hyper and Hypothermia
  • Dehydration
  • Cuts and wounds
  • Bites and stings
  • Toxic plants
  • Managing pain and breathing and some local easy to use medicinal plants

Q: Is a particular week of summer camp full?

A: We will CLEARLY mark when any camps or classes are full and give you an option to join the wait list.

Q: My child is not quite the age required for the class/camp we would like to enroll in. Is it ok to enroll them?

A: Possibly, please email us to inquire about age exceptions. 

Q: Do you run custom/private classes?

A: We are able to accommodate private classes on a very limited basis 

Q: Do you allow dogs at class?

A: We do not allow pets at classes. Service Dogs are welcome. 

Q: Are your staff First Aid/CPR certified?

A: Yes, all our staff are certified in First Aid/CPR at a minimum. Many staff has further certifications.
